This thermostat has a switching capacity of 3600W / 16A. At 150W per m², it can control a heating mat or cable of up to 24m² (3600W ÷ 150W = 24). It is compatible with all Aqua Elegance mat sizes — 1, 2, 3, 7, and 10m². If combining multiple mats on a single circuit, ensure the total wattage does not exceed 3600W.
What is window open detection?
Window open detection is an energy-saving feature that monitors the rate of temperature drop in the room. If the temperature falls rapidly — as it would when a window or door is opened — the thermostat automatically suspends heating for a set period to avoid wasting energy heating a room with an open window. Once the temperature stabilises, normal heating resumes. This is particularly useful in bathrooms where windows are opened for ventilation after showering.
What is the holiday setting?
The holiday setting allows you to programme an extended absence period — for example, 14 days while you are on holiday. During this time, the thermostat suspends the normal heating schedule but maintains frost protection, ensuring the floor does not drop below a set minimum temperature. When the holiday period ends, the thermostat automatically returns to the normal programme.
What is frost protection?
Frost protection is a safety feature that prevents the floor temperature from dropping below a set minimum — typically around 5°C — regardless of the programmed schedule. This protects the floor covering and any pipework from damage in very cold conditions, and is particularly useful in rooms that are unheated for extended periods.
What is the difference between this and the Digital Programmable Thermostat?
Both thermostats are compatible with the same Aqua Elegance underfloor heating systems and carry the same 50-year guarantee. What is the difference between air and floor temperature control?
In floor temperature mode, the thermostat uses the included 3m floor sensor probe to monitor the temperature of the floor surface directly. The system switches off when the floor reaches the set temperature — recommended for most installations as it protects the floor covering from overheating. In air temperature mode, the thermostat uses its internal sensor to monitor the ambient room temperature, switching the heating on and off to maintain the room at the set temperature.
Is this thermostat suitable for wet (hydronic) underfloor heating?
No — this thermostat is designed for electric (resistive) underfloor heating systems only. It is not suitable for wet (water-based/hydronic) underfloor heating systems.
