The right basin waste is an essential finishing detail — and with so many styles and finishes available, it's easy to find one that coordinates perfectly with your basin taps and accessories. We stock basin wastes from VitrA, Nuie, Roper Rhodes, TOP-FIX, Kartell, and McAlpine, in click-clack, pop-up, push-open, plug & chain, and freeflow styles, in chrome, matt black, brushed brass, brushed bronze, gunmetal, and more.
Types of Basin Waste
- Click-clack (push-button) — press the top to open and close; no plug or chain needed; the most popular style for modern bathrooms
- Pop-up waste — operated by a rod connected to the tap body; often supplied with monobloc mixer taps; opens and closes via the tap lever
- Push-open waste — push down to open, push again to close; similar to click-clack but with a different mechanism
- Plug & chain — traditional style with a metal plug and chain; simple, reliable, and ideal for period or traditional bathrooms
- Freeflow / ceramic freeflow — open waste with no plug; water drains freely; VitrA's ceramic freeflow waste includes 8 coloured cover options
- TOP-FIX wastes — install from above without access underneath; ideal for fitted furniture or difficult access situations
Slotted vs Unslotted — Which Do I Need?
- Slotted waste — has a small slot to allow overflow water to drain through the basin's overflow channel. Required for basins with an overflow hole.
- Unslotted waste — no slot; creates a complete seal. Required for basins without an overflow (e.g. vessel basins, some countertop basins).
- Universal waste — fits both slotted and unslotted basins; the safest choice if you're unsure.
Available Finishes
- Chrome, Matt Black, Brushed Brass, Brushed Bronze, Gunmetal, Brushed Nickel, Brushed Pewter, and more

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know if I need a slotted or unslotted waste?
Look at your basin — if it has a small hole near the top of the bowl (the overflow), you need a slotted waste. If there is no overflow hole (common with vessel basins and some countertop basins), you need an unslotted waste. If you're not sure, choose a universal waste which works with both.
What size is a standard basin waste?
Most basin wastes have a 32mm outlet diameter, which connects to standard 32mm waste pipework. Always check the product specification to confirm the outlet size before ordering.
What is a TOP-FIX basin waste?
TOP-FIX wastes are designed to be installed from above — without needing to access the underside of the basin. This makes them ideal for fitted vanity units or any situation where getting underneath is difficult or impossible.
Can I order if the item shows as out of stock?
Yes — our basin wastes can be ordered even when showing as out of stock, and we'll fulfil your order as soon as stock is available. If you need a specific delivery timeframe, please contact us at customerservice@bubblegumbathrooms.co.uk before ordering.
