Types of Basin
- Pedestal Basins — A timeless classic. The full pedestal conceals pipework and provides a clean, traditional look. Available in full and semi-pedestal options.
- Wall-Hung Basins — Mounted directly to the wall with no pedestal, creating a sleek, minimalist appearance and making floor cleaning easier.
- Countertop & Vessel Basins — Sit on top of a vanity unit or worktop for a striking, designer statement. Available in round, rectangular, and freeform shapes. See our Vessel Basins collection.
- Semi-Recessed Basins — Partially inset into a vanity unit, saving space while providing a generous bowl. See our Semi-Recessed Basins collection.
- Inset Basins — Drop into a worktop or vanity unit for a seamless, integrated look. See our Inset Basins collection.
- Console Basins — Basin supported by a freestanding frame or legs, combining open storage with elegant styling.
- Cloakroom Basins — Compact designs ideal for smaller spaces. See our Cloakroom Vanity Units for matched sets.
Key Features to Consider
- Tap Holes — Basins come with 0, 1, 2, or 3 tap holes. Choose based on your preferred tap style — monobloc mixers need 1 hole, pillar taps need 2, and wall-mounted taps need 0.
- Size — Standard basins range from 400mm to 700mm wide. Measure your space carefully, allowing room for taps and waste.
- Material — Most basins are vitreous china for durability and easy cleaning. Some vessel basins are available in recycled ceramic or stone resin.
- Overflow — Most basins include a slotted overflow; some vessel basins are unslotted — check compatibility with your chosen waste.

Frequently Asked Questions
How many tap holes do I need?
This depends on your chosen tap. A monobloc mixer tap (single lever or knob controlling both hot and cold) requires 1 tap hole. Traditional pillar taps (separate hot and cold) require 2 tap holes. Wall-mounted taps require 0 tap holes in the basin. If you're unsure, choose a 1-tap-hole basin as it's the most versatile.
What is the difference between a full pedestal and a semi-pedestal?
A full pedestal runs from the basin down to the floor, fully concealing the waste pipe and providing additional support. A semi-pedestal is shorter, attaching to the wall beneath the basin to conceal the trap and waste, while leaving the floor clear — giving a more contemporary look and making cleaning easier.
Can I use a vessel basin with any vanity unit?
Vessel basins sit on top of a surface rather than being inset, so you need a vanity unit or worktop designed for countertop use. The tap is usually wall-mounted or fitted through the worktop rather than the basin itself. Check the height of your vanity unit — countertop basins add significant height to the finished installation.
Can I order if the item shows as out of stock?
Yes — most of our basins can be ordered even when showing as out of stock, and we'll fulfil your order as soon as stock is available. If you need a specific delivery timeframe, please contact us at customerservice@bubblegumbathrooms.co.uk before ordering.
