Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between 8.5kW and 9.5kW?
Both units are the same Aqualisa E1 shower in white — the only difference is the power rating. A higher wattage heats the water more quickly, which means a stronger flow rate at the same temperature setting, or the ability to achieve a comfortable temperature when the incoming mains water is cold (typically in winter). The 9.5kW is recommended if flow rate is a priority or if your mains water supply is particularly cold. The 8.5kW is suitable for most standard installations. Note that a higher wattage requires a higher-rated circuit — confirm with your electrician before ordering.
Does an electric shower need a special electrical circuit?
Yes — electric showers require a dedicated circuit from the consumer unit (fuse box), protected by an appropriate MCB (typically 40A for 8.5kW or 45A for 9.5kW). A 45A double-pole isolator switch must be installed outside the bathroom zone. All electrical work must be carried out by a qualified electrician in accordance with Part P of the Building Regulations and BS 7671 (IET Wiring Regulations).
Does an electric shower use my boiler or hot water tank?
No — an electric shower heats cold mains water on demand using its own internal heating element. It is completely independent of your boiler, hot water cylinder, or stored hot water supply. This makes it ideal for homes with limited hot water, combi boilers with low flow rates, or as a backup shower.
What water pressure does the Aqualisa E1 require?
The Aqualisa E1 requires a minimum mains water pressure of 1 bar and is rated to a maximum of 10 bar. It is suitable for most UK mains-fed installations. If you are unsure of your mains pressure, a plumber can test this before installation.
What does BEAB approved mean?
BEAB (British Electrotechnical Approvals Board) approval means the shower has been independently tested and certified to meet British safety standards for electrical bathroom products. It is a recognised mark of quality and safety for electric showers in the UK, and is often required by installers and building control as evidence of compliance.
What are the 4 multi-fit installation options?
The Aqualisa E1 offers four cable and water entry positions — cable entry from the right via top, bottom, or rear; water entry from the right via top, bottom, side, or rear. This flexibility means the E1 can be installed as a direct replacement for most existing electric showers without requiring new cable or pipe routes, reducing installation time and cost.
Is the handset and rail included?
Yes — the Aqualisa E1 is supplied complete with a single mode shower handset, adjustable stainless steel rail, and hose. No additional handset or rail purchase is required.
Can I order if the item shows as out of stock?
Yes — this product is available to order even when stock shows as zero. Please allow additional lead time and contact us on 01603 381095 to confirm availability.
