Things to Check Before Buying
- BTU Output — Ensure the rail provides enough heat for your bathroom size. A larger bathroom needs a higher BTU rating.
- Connection Centres — Confirm the valve spacing matches your existing pipework before ordering.
- Fuel Type — Central heating, electric, or dual fuel? Choose based on your plumbing setup and usage pattern.
- Bar Spacing — Wider bar spacing suits larger, thicker towels and bathrobes.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between a central heating and electric towel rail?
A central heating (wet) towel rail connects to your home's central heating system via your boiler and pipework — it only heats when the heating is on. An electric towel rail is independently powered and can be switched on at any time, making it ideal for use in summer or in rooms without central heating pipework. A dual fuel rail gives you both options.
How do I know what BTU output I need?
As a general guide, you need approximately 100 BTU per cubic metre of bathroom space, plus an additional allowance for heat lost through windows and external walls. For a standard UK bathroom of around 4–6m², a rail with 1,000–2,000 BTU is typically sufficient. If in doubt, call us on 01603 381095 for advice.
Do I need a plumber to fit a central heating towel rail?
Yes — connecting a central heating towel rail to your pipework should be carried out by a qualified plumber. Electric and dual fuel rails (when used in electric mode) must be installed by a qualified electrician if hardwired. Plug-in electric rails can be fitted by a competent DIYer.
Can I order if the item shows as out of stock?
Yes — most of our heated towel rails can be ordered even when showing as out of stock, and we'll fulfil your order as soon as stock is available. If you need a specific delivery timeframe, please contact us at customerservice@bubblegumbathrooms.co.uk before ordering.
