Hot & Cold
Q. Which Goes Where and does it really matter?
This is one of the easiest questions we get asked, which side is hot?
Thats easy hot is on the right - - - Is it?? No, it's on the Left, it's always been on the left, it has no need to be anywhere but the left, right?
Whether its a shower, basin, bath, kitchen sink its always been the same hot on the left, Right?
Well thats how it should be and in most parts thats how it is, BUT we do come across jobs where a showers been replaced and it doesnt work properly, Based on the understanding of how a thermostatic shower works we suggest "Your pipes are back to front" and the answer we get is "They can't be, our plumber connected it to the existing pipes and the old shower worked fine it's your shower thats faulty!". Unfortunately there used to be quite a few showers that where made with reversible catridges so you could swap the hot and cold, Actually they were made so you could mount the shower up one way with the outlet pointing down for a sliding rail kit or up the other way for a fixed head, Hot was still supposed to be on the left, Right? but when whoever installed it and didn't realise where the pipes were supposed to be it didn't matter as a quick flick round and problem was solved, pipes were reversed, BUT Now showers don't generally have this feature so when we sugggest mounting their bar valve upside down to test our theory we get a shocked face follwed by "O.K what if that works", well if it works you need to find your pipes and swap them around, or fit a reversible valve (Depending on what look your going for this may not be possible)
